An independent garage in Birmingham city centre

We are an independent garage doing servicing, MOT testing, brakes, diagnostics and general mechanical repair on cars and vans of all makes. We are a DVSA-approved MOT test centre, so tests are carried out here on site rather than sent elsewhere.

We are open 08:00 to 17:00 seven days a week, which is the most useful thing about us for most people. Most independents close at Saturday lunchtime and not at all on Sunday, and that is why so many small faults get left until they become large ones.

How we work

Three things, and they are the whole of it.

You get the price before we start

Nothing is replaced without your say-so. If we find something else once the car is on the ramp, we ring you — it does not simply appear on the bill. If a job turns out to be more difficult than quoted, that is our problem, not a surprise for you at the counter.

We test before we replace

A fault code names a circuit that is reporting a problem, not a part that has failed. P0420 does not mean “buy a new catalytic converter” — it means something in that circuit is reading out of range, and it could be the cat, a lazy sensor, an exhaust leak or a misfire. Fitting parts until the warning light goes out is how people pay twice for one fault. Diagnosis takes longer and costs less.

We tell you when something can wait

If your pads have 4mm left, we will say so rather than sell you a set. A report that finds nothing urgent is a perfectly good outcome, and we would rather you came back in a year than felt sold to once.

What we work on

All makes and models, petrol and diesel, cars and light vans. Servicing to the manufacturer’s schedule with the correct specification oil and parts, so your warranty and your service history both stand up — under the UK’s Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order, having a car serviced at an independent garage does not affect the manufacturer’s warranty provided the work is done to schedule with the right parts.

If what you need is not on our services page, ring and ask. We would rather tell you we do not do something than take the car in and disappoint you.

Why we write about Birmingham driving specifically

Because the wear pattern here is genuinely different, and most advice you will read online is not written for it.

A car driven inside the A4540 Middleway brakes far more often per mile than one on a motorway commute, so pads wear at roughly twice the rate. Short journeys across the city frequently end before the engine reaches full operating temperature, so oil never sheds the fuel and water it picks up, and diesel particulate filters never get the sustained run they need to regenerate. Long-life service intervals were designed around steady long-distance running, and most city cars never see any.

None of that means a Birmingham car is a bad car. It means the handbook interval is often the wrong interval, and knowing that is worth more than any badge we could put on this page.

What we do not claim

We are a new site, and we would rather be straight about that than invent credibility.

You will not find fabricated reviews, made-up star ratings, invented accreditations or a “trusted since 1987” line on this website, because none of it would be true. What we can offer instead is specific, honest, checkable information about your car and a price agreed before we touch it. If that is the sort of garage you are looking for, ring us.

Not sure what’s wrong?

Ring us and describe what the car is doing. We’ll tell you what it’s likely to be and roughly what it will cost before you bring it in.
