Increasingly common. Rather than a cable, an electric motor applies the rear brakes. Failures tend to be an actuator motor, a wiring fault, or a stored fault code — and an illuminated parking brake warning light is a failure in its own right. These usually need diagnostic equipment to read and to retract the calliper for servicing.
